Express Entry

What Is Express Entry?

Express entry is a program run by the Government of Canada and targets skilled workers in four categories.

  • Federal Skilled Worker (FSW).
  • Federal Skilled Trades (FST).
  • Canadian Experience Class (CEC).
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).

Express Entry Is by Invitation only (ITA). The invitation to apply (ITA) is no guarantee of permanent residency!

  • The two other Express Entry-aligned programs, Federal Skilled Trades (FST) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC), do not use separate immigration points systems to calculate eligibility.
  • FST class has no Points System and therefore, there are no scores. CEC class uses a pass/fail qualification system. Instead, the candidates applying under the FST and CEC programs must meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria.
Express Entry

The Express Entry process has the following steps:

  • An electronic application is submitted through the express entry portal.
  • Candidates will be placed against each other in the pool using a point-based system.
  • Candidates with the highest scores in the pool will be issued an invitation to apply –(ITA).
  • If invited, 60 days to submit an online application for permanent residence.

What is point Based System:

  • Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is a points-based system that is used to assess and score candidates profile and rank it in the Express Entry pool. It’s used to assess and scores potential skilled worker candidates on their skills, work experience, language ability, education, and other factors, such as a job offer or a nomination by a province or a territory.
  • Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), in addition to CRS score, uses another points system. A candidate must score 67 out of 100 points to be eligible to submit an Express Entry Profile and get a CRS score.
  • The two Express Entry-aligned programs, Federal Skilled Trades (FST) and Canadian Experience Class (CEC), do not use separate immigration points systems to calculate eligibility. FST has no Points System and therefore, no scores and CEC uses a pass/fail qualification system. Instead, the candidates applying under the FST and CEC programs must meet the program’s minimum eligibility criteria.
