Federal Skilled Worker

Who is a skilled worker? 

“Skilled Workers” are a class of persons selected “on the basis of their ability to become economically established in Canada, and who intend to reside in a province other than the province of Quebec”.

Eligibility:

This program has minimum requirements for skilled work experience, language ability, education. A candidate must meet all the minimum requirements to be eligible.

If a candidate meets all minimum requirements, then an application is assessed based on age, education, work experience, a valid job offer, English and/or French language skills and adaptability (how well one is likely to settle here).

General requirements for skilled workers:

  • Have at least one year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in the past 10 years in a skilled occupation (NOC type 0, Skill level A or B); AND.
  • Pass a minimum threshold of language ability for one of Canada’s two official languages (English/French) (CLB 7).
  • Education (High School).
  • Federal Skilled Worker (Professional) applicants must attain at least 67 points out of 100 points on FSW eligibility points grid, based on IRCC immigration selection factors to be eligible to submit an Express Entry Profile and get a CRS score.

Admissibility:

  • In addition, the applicants must have sufficient settlement funds to support themselves and their dependants after arrival in Canada and must also undergo medical examinations and security clearances as a part of the Canadian immigration application process.
