LIMA is a document that an employer in Canada may need to get before hiring a foreign worker.
A positive LIMA means there is a need for a foreign worker to fill the job. It will also show that no Canadian is available to do the job. A positive LIMA is sometimes called a confirmation letter.
An application for LIMA is submitted to Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), and there is $1000 processing fee for each position requested.
Criterias for the Work permit:
Canadian employer applies for and receives a positive LIMA from ESDC.
Foreign national receives a genuine job offer from the Canadian employer and applies for work permit.
There are different requirements if the position offered is “high-wage” or “low-wage”. Temporary foreign workers whose remuneration is below the provincial/territorial median wage are considered low wage. Temporary foreign workers whose compensation is equal to or above are considered high wages.
